Backwater Destinations in Kerala


Alleppey

Alleppey is known as the Venice of the East, to all the travelers around the world. It is located towards central Kerala, India. It has a network of canals, where country boats surf across from one destination to the other. The place attracts a large number of tourists worldwide. The backwaters are famous here especially for the ride in boathouses. The boathouses are made of strong wood with thatched palm and coconut leaves. Thothapalli

Thothapalli is a backwater destination very near the Kovalam beach. Kovalam is the most famous beach of southern India. It is situated at the apex region of the Arabian Sea. The scenic view gives long coconut grooves mingled with paddy farms. One side of the beach is full of rocky edges. Waves splashing at this point provide an eye catching view. The beach is famous for sunbathing, water sports, swimming and surfing. The place offers a variety of cultural activities. Kollam

Quilon is the most ancient trading center of Kerala. The place known as Kollam now, is situated about 70 km away from Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala. The place is famous for its cashew business and Ayurvedic products. There are many rejuvenation centers and Ayurvedic resorts in this region. Kumarakom

Kumarakom backwaters form a part of Vembanad Lake. It is famous for its boat races. It has a scenic view with coconut palm grooves, tapioca fields and paddy fields. A lot fishing eagles are spotted in this place. It has various Ayurvedic resorts which offer a variety of treatments. It has two major estuaries which link into the Arabian Sea. The joining of the lake and the sea can be viewed very clearly on the coastal lines while traveling by railways.
